Dolmio will be following the progress of two families over the next six months as they aim to make changes to their lifestyles. Meet the families below.
The Hall family from Sutton Coldfield
are Mum Denise, Dad Brian and children Molly, 10 and James, 7.
Denise Hall: "There’s nothing particularly unusual about our life. Like most
other families I know our lives are taken up with work and spending time with the
kids. I think the key thing is that Brian and I have both fallen into bad eating
habits that we’re finding hard to break and we’re not finding the time to exercise
properly."
Brian Hall : "I’m convinced my high blood pressure is the result of my weight
so I’d really like to get fitter and lose a few pounds."
We’d like to try to…
- Make sure we eat more often as a family and not just at the weekend
- Eat more wholesome healthy meals and not rely so much on convenience food
- Encourage James to be more adventurous and try more fruit and vegetables
- Both Denise and Brian to lose a little bit of weight
- Increase Brian’s fitness levels and reduce his blood pressure
- Find an exercise class or some time for Denise to go swimming
The Ireland family from Oldham near Manchester
are Dad Keith, Mum Sally and children Joe, 7 and Erin, 2.
Sally and Keith lead busy work and family lives, eat late in the evenings and find
it difficult to find the time to exercise. They are both keen to get fitter and
lose some weight:
Sally Ireland: "I do like being busy but working full time means I don’t often have
time to do the things I like to do. I’ve put on two stone since I met my husband
Keith, but never seem to have time to get to the gym and do something about it."
Keith Ireland : "I don’t like the fact that we eat so late in the evening. I’m sure
that isn’t very good for us. And although I enjoy cooking, I feel I do need to be
more adventurous in the kitchen, especially in the week."
We’d like to try to…
- Try and get in the habit of having our evening meal much earlier during the week
- Be a little more adventurous with our meals
- Encourage the children to eat the same food as we do, so we only have to cook
one meal
- Plan more family activities for the weekends
- Encourage Joe to take part in more outdoor activities and not sit in front of
the PS3 all day!
